Description
A very rare and absolutely stunning vintage rug made by the nomadic Ait Bou Ichaouen tribe circa 1980. This is a very special and unusual tribal art rug, tightly flat-woven with a freeform organic pattern in soft knotted wool. The design is artistically created in bold shades of orange and purple interspersed by lighter shades of ivory, the deep pink of the hanbel (kilim) base being allowed to show through in places to provide texture and depth. The overall effect is simply stunning. This really is a wonderful piece of art that would be a conversation piece in any home. In excellent condition.
I just love this one! What a colour range – deep purple, orange and beige on a flat woven deep pink field. And the wool is so silky soft. The pattern is free and organic, with no restraint. Then there are the tassels, so neatly tied with splayed ends. Obviously created with love. A rare find."

About Ait Bou Ichaouen rugs
The Ait Bou Ichaouen tribe, in contrast to most other carpet-producing tribes, are a nomadic tribe, whose rugs have only been discovered within the last twenty-five years or so due to the tribe’s remote location in north-east Morocco. Rugs from this region often have bold colours and patterns stemming from the weaver’s imagination rather than any external influences. They are stunning collectible pieces and quite rare.
