Woman’s shawls or capes (handira in Arabic; tabrdouhte in Tamazight) are more commonly known as wedding blankets. This vintage flat-weave handira from the 1980s is handwoven with wool and cotton. It features horizontal bands woven in the trademark shades of deep pink used by the Zemmour tribes and is complete with finely embroidered Berber patterns and symbols in traditional white, black and orange. It is very neatly finished with tassels at both ends. Raised interspersed patterns in wool add texture and vibrancy to this unusual rug. This is a real collector’s piece.
A stunning vintage handira of excellent quality weaving. The colours are strong and beautiful, the patterns exquisite, and look at the ends of those tassels – decorated with matching coloured wool. Fantastic! A collector’s dream or a wonderful item for anyone who loves perfect vintage textiles.
