These highly creative rugs are handwoven mainly for personal use in the home by women from the Azilal region of Morocco, an area stretching from the High Atlas Mountains all the way to the Middle Atlas. It is widely believed that these rugs remained undiscovered until the 1990s. Azilal rugs are fine examples of tribal art rugs and are often vibrant, playful and eye-catching. They are usually of low to medium pile, spun using fine pure wool, and occasionally have added pieces of material woven in to create texture and effect. Designs and patterns in our range are freeform, wild and random with expressive colour palettes. They will add new life to any room.
