A classic vintage hanbel (kilim) by the Zemmour tribes who inhabit the areas around the city of Khemisset to the west of the Middle Atlas Mountains. It was handwoven circa 1980. The main field of the rug is red and this is adorned with horizontal bands containing a variety of Berber tribal patterns, each row different from the next. The weaving is exquisite and detailed, giving a stunning overall effect. A feature has been made of one of the horizontal bands, raising it above the others and extending it to the edges of the rug. In excellent condition. An amazing rug that would suit either a modern or more traditional home.
Wow, this rug is stunning! It has the traditional colouring of rugs from this region but the intricacy of the weaving is outstanding.
