This is a unique vintage kilim (hanbel) Berber cushion handwoven by a tribeswoman in Morocco. This beautiful cushion may have been lovingly made for use in the weaver’s home or as a tent cushion for a nomadic family.
This large cushion is patterned on one side with tufted knots and embroidery and the reverse is plain with stripes. This cushion is in good condition and still has its original sequins (muzona), although a few may be missing due to its age. A lovely piece of authentic Berber tribal art to add to your home
Please note: For ease of shipping, this cushion is sold without filling. As is traditional, there is an opening to allow for filling with material of your choice. Once filled, the opening can be handstitched, although it would be possible for you to insert a zip if preferred.
All our cushions are vintage and not new. They may, therefore, exhibit signs of wear such as having sequins or fringing missing in places or showing slight colour run due to being washed previously in a traditional way. These features speak of the nature of a unique handwoven item made for and used in a family home and, as such, only add to their appeal. We have chosen not to restore any of our cushion covers for this reason. They have all been cleaned prior to selling.
