A very unusual and unique woollen low pile Boujad rug from the 1970s with a beautiful aged patina. It has had many repairs in its 50+ years of life but remains a very attractive piece. It was obviously a cherished rug in a family home. Genuine vintage rugs of this nature are now very hard to find.

About Boujad rugs
Rugs from the Boujad region of Morocco, woven by the women of the Al Haouz plain, can generally fall into three categories:
- Classic tribal designs featuring geometric shapes surrounded by a decorative border.
- Art rugs featuring checkerboard patterns or simply large blocks of colour, sometimes leading the designs to be compared with the works of artists such as Klee or Rothko.
- Abstract weavings – a creative mix of tribal motifs, shapes and lines in bright contrasting colours, sometimes accompanied by recognisable motifs of people, animals, teapots or scenes from memory.
The tribal art rugs made in this region are much sought-after due to their very creative nature. This really is tribal art at its best!
