Description
This is a vintage flat-woven rug from the Boujad region with boucherouite (recycled textiles) embellishment, made circa 1980. It features a raised zigzag pattern of added textiles in a variety of colours on a multi-coloured base made of woven textiles. It does not have any fringing. This lovely rug could be used as a runner or a rug in any narrow space in your home. Alternatively, it could be used as a wall decoration..
I love the fact that this pretty multicoloured rug is made entirely of recycled textiles. The base is woven using textiles and textile knots are added to make the raised pattern. Very unusual."

About Boucherouite rugs
Breaking all the rules of carpet design, boucherouite rugs are simply unique. They are often made in mountainous areas where wool is scarce. By adding pieces of material, yarn from recycled clothing, as well as wool, to the traditional cotton weft, an abstract design and form like no other is created. Sometimes the weft itself is also made from textiles. Amazigh (Berber) women from all over the mountainous regions of Morocco make these carpets and may incorporate their own imaginative stance, tribal symbols and beliefs into their creation. Colours and patterns are blended to produce truly stunning works of art. In our collection we have vintage boucherouite rugs from several regions of Morocco. Many of these would look amazing as either floor rugs or as artistic wall hangings.
