This vintage Boujad rug from the 1970s has a beautiful abrashed field in rich shades of orange with swathes of greens and browns towards one end. Added texture is given by the textile weft being allowed to show through in places and the incorporation of random textile knots throughout the rug. Unusual, eye-catching and full of personality.
The rich shades of orange in this rug are quite stunning. They remind me of Moroccan spices."

About Boujad rugs
Rugs from the Boujad region of Morocco, woven by the women of the Al Haouz plain, can generally fall into three categories:
- Classic tribal designs featuring geometric shapes surrounded by a decorative border.
- Art rugs featuring checkerboard patterns or simply large blocks of colour, sometimes leading the designs to be compared with the works of artists such as Klee or Rothko.
- Abstract weavings – a creative mix of tribal motifs, shapes and lines in bright contrasting colours, sometimes accompanied by recognisable motifs of people, animals, teapots or scenes from memory.
The tribal art rugs made in this region are much sought-after due to their very creative nature. This really is tribal art at its best!
