Description
A large vintage boucherouite ‘rag’ rug from the Azilal region of Morocco, made circa 1980. It is entirely made of recycled textiles and is therefore very hardwearing and washable. It features a traditional lozenge design in complimentary colours and is bright and cheery. Perfect for brightening up a bedroom, kitchen or darker area of your home.
It’s unusual to see such a neat display of textile colours as those seen on this rug, forming a definite Berber traditional lozenge pattern. Gorgeous harmonious colours give it a happy vibe.

About Boucherouite rugs
Breaking all the rules of carpet design, boucherouite rugs are simply unique. They are often made in mountainous areas where wool is scarce. By adding pieces of material, yarn from recycled clothing, as well as wool, to the traditional cotton weft, an abstract design and form like no other is created. Sometimes the weft itself is also made from textiles. Amazigh (Berber) women from all over the mountainous regions of Morocco make these carpets and may incorporate their own imaginative stance, tribal symbols and beliefs into their creation. Colours and patterns are blended to produce truly stunning works of art. In our collection we have vintage boucherouite rugs from several regions of Morocco. Many of these would look amazing as either floor rugs or as artistic wall hangings.
